Lead Product Designer at Experian

Designing the product,
the system and the team.

I’m Ben McCarthy-Jones, a product design leader and entrepreneur. I turn ambiguous customer problems into clear product direction. I also build the teams and conditions to deliver it.

B / What I bring

The best design leaders don’t just improve the interface. They improve how the organisation decides.

My work connects customer insight, behavioural psychology and commercial reality. The goal is a product vision teams can believe in, a system they can work within and a culture that keeps learning.

I stay hands-on where it matters. I facilitate discovery, shape propositions, make complex problems tangible and coach designers through the decisions that raise the bar.

D / Principles

How I lead.

  1. 01

    Evidence before theatre

Start with the customer and the decision to be made. Research should change direction, not decorate a deck.

  2. 02

    Psychology, applied with care

Use behavioural insight to reduce friction and make choices clearer. Never use it to manipulate people into the wrong outcome.

  3. 03

    Make the system visible

Products improve when principles, patterns, progression and decision-making are explicit enough for teams to own.

  4. 04

    Stay close to real life

Family life, travel and building ventures keep the work grounded in the constraints people actually navigate: time, trust and attention.
